RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Jason Hanson launched his first-career home run in the second inning, but the UC Davis Aggies fell to the CBU Lancers 7-1, Saturday night.
Hanson finished the day going 2-for-4 at the plate, with his aforementioned home run being the lone RBI for the Aggies in the ballgame.
Hanson was responsible for two of the Aggies three hits on the day with
Mark Wolbert collecting the other with a single that led off the game.
Junior
Noel Valdez (1-1) started and took the loss on the mound for UC Davis (5-5).
Carter Speights and
Ian Torpey also saw action out of the bullpen for UC Davis. The trio of arms combined for six strikeouts with Valdez being responsible for the majority, punching out five Lancers in his six frames of work.
Despite this, the Aggies struggled to generate momentum throughout the game with CBU taking an early 3-0 lead and never looking back after that point.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mark Wolbert started things off with a single to begin the game but were unable to bring him home in the top half of the first. CBU would respond in the bottom half of the inning, opening the game with a 3-0 advantage.
Trailing 3-0, the Aggies were able to show some fight with
Jason Hanson providing UC Davis a much needed run on the board with a two-out solo home run off junior Brandon Downer. This home run would not be enough to will the Aggies as they were held in check the rest of the way while CBU added four more unanswered runs to their tally on the way to a 7-1 final.
