Aggies Stumble at Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif.  -- UC Davis struggled on the offensive end on Thursday night inside Walter Pyramind as it was Long Beach State who came away with the 78-52 win.

The Aggies (13-11, 9-5 Big West) couldn't find rhythm offensively and posted their second worst shooting night of the season at 27.5% from the field and 24.2% from beyond the arc.

UC Davis had two players score in double figures, led by Tova Sabel, who had 12 points and three steals. Evanne Turner tacked on 10 points and Megan Norris added two points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Norris pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for UC Davis, grabbing 17 boards and turning them into 12 second chance points.

The game was defined by a tough stretch to start the second half when the Aggies went over seven minutes without scoring, allowing The Beach to rally for a 15-0 run to put the game completely out of reach.

How It Happened
After falling behind 10-3, UC Davis went on a 7-0 run with 4:13 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Campbell Gray, to tie the game at 10. Long Beach State then pulled ahead, sending the Aggies into the second quarter down 17-12.

The second quarter was not kind to the Aggies as they were out-scored 21-11 after going just 4-of-16 from the floor. This left UC Davis with a 38-23 deficit at the break.

UC Davis' deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Aggies faced a 59-29 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. The shooting woes continued in the third period when UC Davis mustered a season-low six points in the quarter after making just two of its 15 attempts.

UC Davis narrowed its deficit in the fourth quarter, but could not get over the hump, losing 78-52. UC Davis took advantage of five Long Beach State turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of those takeaways.
