DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis women's golf concluded their first spring competition of the season, taking second place at the Battle at the Boundary.
DAY TWO
Lauren Calderon had a steady final round, firing a 2-over 74 with consistent play throughout the day to lead the Aggies. She opened with four straight pars and maintained her composure throughout, closing out with eight straight holes of par or better while also securing her lone birdie of the day on hole 13, a long par 5.
Calderon was the top Aggie finisher for the week as she slotted into fourth place.
Skyler May put together a competitive performance, carding a 3-over 75 for the round. After securing a birdie on the opening hole, it would be a sign of things to come as she led UC Davis on the day with the most birdies as she had a team-high three.
Vani Karimanal posted a 76 for her round and saw much of her success come during the middle portion of her round. From holes 6-15, Karimanal carded seven pars, two birdies, and just one bogey.
The Aggies as a team finished at 26-over 300 across the two days.
The rest of the Aggies in competition included Katelyn Parr at 5-over 77, Abby Leighton at 6-over 78, while Marina Mata and Keira Wang finished with rounds of 10-over 82 respectively.
The Aggies will resume the spring portion of their schedule hosting the Causeway Invitational at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, California.
DAY ONE
Vani Karimanal concluded her round with a +2, posting a score of 74. Her three birdies today were a team-high for the Aggies. She led UC Davis during the first official competition of the Spring for the Aggies.
Following right alongside her was Lauren Calderon, matching Karimanal with a score of +2, who wrapped up her round with a solid 74 as well. Calderon's success today was steady with her seeing the best results on her card during the back nine of her round.
Both Calderon and Karimanal are tied for fourth place within the leaderboard.
Katelyn Parr and Skyler May also showcased resilience and skill, finishing with a commendable +4 and a total score of 76. Their consistent play throughout the round demonstrated an ability to navigate the challenges presented by the course. Parr started off her round rattling home eight-straight pars. She would continue her steady play during the later holes as well, recording a birdie on hole 15, the 473 yard par 5.
May's round was opposite of Parr's as she found most of her success with a strong finish during the back nine. Her birdie on hole 10 was the catalyst for her even-par score during the final nine holes.
Abby Leighton rounded out the lineup for UC Davis, carding a +9, 81.
Marina Mata and Keira Wang slotted in today as individuals, with Mata recording +7, 79 which was good for 14th on the leaderboard. Wang finished at +15 as the final Aggie competing today.
Tomorrow the Battle at the Boundary will continue as play transitions its way over the the Winchester Country Club in Meadow Vista, California.
