Aggies Drop Road Matchup to the Vikings

Score: UC Davis 61, Portland State 66
Location: Portland, Ore. (Viking Pavilion)
Records: UC Davis 3-4, Portland State 3-2

The short story: Tova Sabel and Megan Norris hit double figures for the Aggies but the UC Davis women's basketball team squandered a fourth-quarter lead to fall to the Portland State Vikings, 66-61.

OPENING TIP
  • Sabel posted her first double-double of the season, putting up 17 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Norris added 14 points for the Aggies to go along with three blocks.
  • Avery Sussex fueled the second unit, scoring nine points off the bench with three triples.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams were strong defensively coming out of the locker room, with Davis being held to only two field goals from Tova Sabel and one from Megan Norris in the game's first five minutes.
  • After the media timeout, the Aggies began to establish a rhythm, with back-to-back threes from Avery Sussex giving her team a 17-12 lead after one.
  • Back on the floor, five quick points from the Vikings tied things up, but Davis continued to fight, trading baskets with their opponent to stay within one possession.
  • Tied at 27 late in the half, Portland State cashed on a quick three to send them into the half up 30-27.
  • On the first possession of the third, Norris tied the game with a three-pointer.
  • The Aggies continued to mount the pressure on their opponent to the tune of four triples in the period, entering the fourth quarter up 49-40.
  • With Davis holding all of the momentum, the Vikings began to chip into the lead, using free throws and quick field goals to find themselves down only two at the media break, 56-54.
  • With four minutes left, Portland State tied it up yet again with a mid-range jumper.
  • A layup from Norris and a three from Mazatlan Harris kept the Aggies in front 61-59.
  • However, this would be the last time Davis scored, as the Vikings would score the game's last seven points to snatch the win 66-61.

UP NEXT: The Aggies will travel back in-state to begin conference play with a matchup against Cal Poly on Thursday, Dec. 5. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. PT and fans can watch the game live on ESPN+.
