Aggie Football Donors Make Impact On Success

DAVIS, Calif. - Over UC Davis football's six home games that athletic department has taken the time to highlight a donor during each game, their contributions have been a big part of the Aggies historic and successful season.

Listed below are the donors who gave during the season, Aggie football and the UC Davis athletic department would like to say thank you to these donors for their gifts.

Linda Olson and Dave Hodgens
Linda Olson and Dave Hodgens truly embody the Aggie Spirit in their dedication to the athletics program. Linda and Dave hail from La Jolla, Calif., but joined the Aggie family when their son and daughter attended UC Davis and played on the water polo teams. They have been passionate donors since and have greatly impacted the aquatics programs and their facilities.

In 2017 Linda and Dave were lead donors to the Schaal Team Center that would include coaching offices, conference room, and be a hub for all aquatics teams. Athletics continued to see support from the Olson-Hodgens family through the years and in the fall of 2021 they made another huge impact when they endowed the women's water polo's head coach position. The position was renamed to "Coach Jamey Wright and Hodgens Family Director of Women's Water Polo," after retired Aggie Head Coach Jamey Wright and his decades of service to UC Davis.

Wendy Grover
Wendy Grover was a member of the women's tennis team and graduated from UC Davis in 1977. Former coach Bob Foster was an inspiration to Wendy and in turn she endowed the Bob Foster Women's Tennis Scholarship Award. Grover now resides in Pebble Beach, Calif., and is the tennis coach at Stephenson School. Her dedication to young tennis players in the Monterey community was recently recognized with the Double Goal award presented from the Positive Coaching Alliance.

Wendy regularly returns to campus with her former teammates to support the UC Davis Men's and Women's Tennis programs at their annual Pro Am fundraiser.

Cookie Arrighi
Women's Swim & Dive alumna and 2023 Cal Aggie Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee, Cookie Arrighi was honored at the game vs. Cal Poly on October 12th.  During the time that Cookie was a student-athlete at UC Davis, there were very few opportunities for women outside of a small number of swim meets with other Northern California Schools. There were also no athletic scholarships for women's sports anywhere in the country.

As a student-athlete, Arrighi was very active on the UC Davis campus as a member of the Campus Task Force on Title IX.  She was also invited to serve on a statewide committee of women student-athletes from around California, working to evaluate the status of collegiate women's sports and make recommendations to the state on implementing the law.

In recognition of her outstanding academic and athletic achievements and her contributions to the campus as a whole, Arrighi was the first to be awarded the prestigious Hubert Heitman award in 1973. We are thankful for Arrighi and her generosity in endowing a scholarship for the Women's Swimming & Diving program here at UC Davis.

Sandy and Ron Van de Pol
Originally from Stockton, Calif., Ron Van de Pol came to Davis as a member of the football program, and converted his wife, Sandy to a true Aggie as the two are consistent faces in the crowd on football game days. Ron and Sandy have four children and live in Stockton where Ron is President and CEO of Van de Pol Enterprises.

The Van De Pols are ardent financial supporters of the Aggies giving to football, beach volleyball, and the Edwards Family Athletics Center where they helped name a space in honor of legendary athletic trainer, Dick Lewis. Most recently the Van de Pols stepped up to start Aggie Edge, powered by Student Athlete NIL (SANIL), the official NIL Collective for Aggie Student-Athletes to leverage their Name, Image, and Likeness.

Kelsey Fischer and Patrick Michilier
Aggie alum's Kelsey Fischer and Patrick Michelier competed as Aggies during the Division 1 transition year where they met as undergrads. Kelsey originally from Alamo, Calif., came to Davis and played Golf here until she graduated in 2009 and now practices law in Sacramento, Calif. Pat, who grew up in Davis, was a defensive lineman for the Ags and graduated in 2009 and now works in orthopedics in Sacramento.

Kelsey and Pat are consistent attendees at football games as well as local women's golf tournaments. The former golfer and football player remain avid contributors to Team Aggie, and frequent EVO Pro network participants for the department's student-athlete outcomes program.

Jane Arp
Jane Arp has been a key part of the Aggie Football program for over 50 years. Jane's husband, Fred Arp, started coaching at UC Davis back in 1968. Jane and Fred are beloved by the "Club Fred" alumni as well as all the former Aggie football student-athletes.

Jane resides in Colfax, Calif. and continues to come to every home game for the Ags. Jane and Fred have been loyal financial supporters to UC Davis Football including facility named projects and the Club Fred scholarship endowment. Even after Fred's passing, Jane continues to support the Aggies and take pride in the program.
