CHICAGO, Ill. – One of the most decorated UC Davis women's basketball athletes of all time, Morgan Bertsch, has been named to a WNBA opening day roster, joining the Chicago Sky.
The Santa Rosa, Calif. native is UC Davis' all-time leading scorer and earned a multitude of accolades during her playing career, including Big West Player of the Year recognition following the 2018-19 season.
Bertsch became the first Aggie to be drafted into the WNBA when she was selected in the 3
rd round (29
th overall) of the 2019 draft by the Dallas Wings. Her professional playing career began in 2020 with Sparta & K Vidnoe in Moscow, a season that would eventually be cut short due to COVID. Bertsch then joined AZS UMCS – Lublin (Poland) before signing a contract with Arka Gdynia (Poland) of the Euroleague. Her last stop was in Belgium, where the Aggie standout played for Kangaroes Mechelen (Belgium), where she was the Euroleague's third-leading scorer, just one spot below Breanna Stewart. She averaged 17.0 points and 6.7 rebounds while shooting 59.2% from the field in her time with Kangaroes.
Bertsch signed her initial training camp contract with Chicago in April but will now join the full-time roster. She recently scored in double-digits for the first time on May 13, dropping 12 points and grabbing five rebounds in her 25 minutes against Minnesota.
The Chicago Sky tips off the 2023 regular-season on Friday, May 19 against the Minnesota Lynx in Minneapolis at 7:00 p.m. CST. Follow @chicagosky on social media and sky.wnba.com for the latest news, content and ticket purchasing.
