SANTA BARBARA – The UC Davis softball team split its doubleheader against UC Santa Barbara on Friday.
GAME 1 | UC Davis 5, UCSB 4
The UC Davis Aggies rallied to even the score at 4-4 in the sixth inning to win in exciting fashion, securing a 5-4 victory over the Gauchos Friday.
Junior Kenedi Brown (14-7) started in the circle and picked up the win for the Ags. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on nine hits, allowing four walks and striking out seven.
Anna Dethlefson went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Rylie Costa added a 2-for-3 effort with a double and an RBI.
The Aggies got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. UCD got on the board thanks to Costa's RBI double with two outs.
The Gauchos then rallied to score four runs and take a 4-1 lead before the Aggies got back on the board in the fifth. UC Davis scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run single off the bat of Pahulu, which evened the score at 4-4.
That 4-4 tie turned into a 5-4 UC Davis lead in the seventh. The score remained 5-4 for the rest of the game, as UC Davis held on for the win.

Sophomore Bella Pahulu strung together three hits, but the UC Davis Aggies fell to Santa Barbara, 12-5 in the night-cap
Junior Sarah Reineman (3-5) came out of the bullpen for UC Davis (26-16, ) and took the loss.
In addition to her three hits, Pahulu had a double, a walk and an RBI to lead the Aggies. Junior Rylie Costa went 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBI. Junior Sarah Starks addedtwo hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
The Aggies got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. UC Davis scored twice, with one run coming across on senior Sommer Kisling's single.
The Gauchos then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 2-1 until the Aggies expanded their advantage in the second. UC Davis scored three times, including two driven in on back-to-back doubles from Pahulu and Starks, which brought the Aggies lead to 5-1. The Aggies were unable to hold the lead, as UCSB scored 11 times over the remaining five innings to grab the 12-5 win.
