Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. — No. 2 seed Cal Poly started hot and never looked back en route to a 4-0 defeat of the UC Davis women's tennis team in the quarterfinal of the Big West Championships on Thursday morning. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Peyton and Delanie Dunkle, who entered the match with an 11-7 record, defeated the Aggies' best duo of Yana Gurevich and Arianna Stavropoulos, 6-1, on court one to give the Mustangs the early edge in doubles play. Kim Bhunu and Kennedy Buntrock followed that performance with a 6-4 win on court two over Lauren Ko and Olive Maunupau to head into singles competition with a one-point lead.

The Dunkle sisters added two more points to the Cal Poly tally, with straight set wins on courts three and four. The Mustangs sealed the match on court six with a 6-2, 7-5 result. 

When play was stopped, Gurevich and Maunupau were leading their opponents and Stavropoulos was entering a third set even at 1-1.

LOOKING AHEAD
The loss wraps up the 2022-2023 season for the UC Davis women's tennis team. The Aggies will return a majority of the roster next year, though the graduating Gurevich, Ko, and Kristina Evloeva will be missed. Gurevich finishes her Aggie career with an impressive 44-30 singles record, three Big West Player of the Week awards, two all-Big West second team honors and two conference All-Academic awards. Ko leaves with an all-Big West first and second team honor in doubles, as well as two All-Academic awards. Evloeva has two Big West All-Academic team awards and three ITA scholar-athlete honors. Awards for the 2023 season will be released following the conclusion of the Big West Championships.
