DAVIS, Calif. – The diamond sports have swept the weekly awards as
Danny Carrion of UC Davis baseball, along with
Anna Dethlefson of UC Davis softball, have been named UC Davis Student-Athletes of the Week.
Coming off last week's marquee win over No. 22 UCLA,
Danny Carrion led UC Davis to its second Big West series win of the season with two excellent outings out of the bullpen. Carrion picked up both wins on the mound, throwing 1.2 shutout innings in his first appearance before he registered his longest outing of the year in the series finale, facing just one batter over the minimum in his 2.2 innings of work. In all, the right hander was absolutely brilliant in the series against UC Riverside, tossing 4.1 innings of scoreless ball, allowing just two hits while striking out four.
Anna Dethlefson was 5-for-10 and stole four bases during the three-game series against UC San Diego. The junior slapped two doubles and scored three runs on the weekend to pace the Aggies' offense. She has swiped the most bags in the Big West, totaling 35 stolen bases to lead the conference. Dethlefson ranks second in the Big West with a batting average of .400 while tallying the third-most hits with 48. With three conference series left on the schedule and 35 stolen bases to her name, Dethlefson needs just three to break the single-season program record.
