Aggies Bats Stay Hot; Brown Tosses One-Hit Gem in 12-0 win

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The UC Davis offense continued to pummel CSU Bakersfield pitching while junior Kenedi Brown threw a one-hit shutout en route to the Aggies' 12-0 victory and series sweep over the Roadrunners on Sunday. After the series, the Ags improve to 18-11 overall and 5-4 in Big West Conference play.

The Aggies scored at a historic rate at the Roadrunner Softball Complex this weekend, amassing 32 runs in the series. The 32 runs are the most ever in a Big West series in program history and are the most in a three-game span since 2003.

In the three-game set, the Ags hit at a .476 clip and sported an on-base-percentage of .556 and slugged .598. Grace Kilday paced the Ags at the plate in the series with a .750 (6-for-8) average. Libbie McMahan and Sarah Starks both batted .714 as McMahan hit a grand slam and drove in seven, while Starks tallied a team-high eight RBI. Eight Aggies hit .400 or better in the series with at least five at-bats.

The Aggie arms were just as impressive, showcasing a 0.93 ERA and a .146 batting average against. The pitching staff allowed only seven hits in 15 innings. Brown went 2-0 with an unblemished 0.00 ERA, striking out 12 in eight innings.

Brown (10-5) went the distance for UC Davis, surrendering just one hit, walking none, and striking out nine.

Offensively, the Aggies were led by McMahan, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBI. Kilday went 3-for-3 with two RBI, while newcomer Mickey Buscemi added two RBI. Four Ags had multi-hit games as every starter reached base safely in the win.

The Aggies once again seized the lead early with a single run in the opening frame. Junior Anna Dethlefson came across to score on a McMahan groundout.

The Aggies then tacked on runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, with their biggest output coming in the third when they scored five times. The big hit in that inning was a grand slam off the bat of McMahan.

UC Davis will have a quick turnaround and continue its road swing with a doubleheader at Saint Mary's on Tuesday, April 4.
