Aggies fall to Saint Mary's

Davis, Calif. — The UC Davis Aggies struggled on Tuesday, falling to the Saint Mary's Gaels 14-2 despite the efforts of senior James Williams III, who went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. In a game where runs were hard to come by for UC Davis, the Aggies recorded just three hits, to Saint Mary's 16.

UC Davis moves to 12-20 on the season with the loss. For the Aggies pitching staff, senior Nathan Peng continues to impress and was a bright spot for the Aggies today. Coming out of the bullpen and throwing two shutout innings, allowing one hit, with no walks and two strikeouts, Peng has gone his last six appearances without allowing a run.

In the batter's box, the Aggies were led by the aforementioned Williams III, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double and two RBI. Junior Damian Stone was the other lone Aggie who made an impact, going 2-for-4 on the day, as Williams III and Stone accounted for all of the Aggie hits in the ballgame.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Aggies first put runs on the board in the third inning. UC Davis scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Williams III. With the bottom half of the third signaling a chance to fight their way back into the game, it would take a completely different turn as the Gaels would tack on runs in four of the last six innings. The Aggies were unable to get any closer, as Saint Mary's added 11 runs to their tally with an emphatic seven-spot in the top of the ninth to race away with 14-2 final.
