DAVIS, Calif. -- The UC Davis Aggies took a 2-1 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 2-1 win over Saint Mary's on Saturday in the second day of the Capital Classic at La Rue Field.
Junior Sarah Reineman (2-1) started in the circle and picked up the win for UC Davis (8-5). The right-hander went the distance, giving up one run on five hits, allowing three walks and striking out three.
Junior Anna Dethlefson led the way offensively for the Aggies, going 2-for-2 in the ballgame. She swiped three of the six bags for the Aggies in the win. Junior Leah Polson batted 1-for-3 with an RBI and stolen base.
The Aggies were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Polson's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for UC Davis. The Ags drew a bases loaded walk for the second and final run of the contest. The score remained 2-1 for the rest of the way, as the Aggies secured the win.
UC Davis will play two games tomorrow afternoon, beginning the final day of the tournament against Southern Utah at 12:30 p.m.
