DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis softball team fell in the series finale to Long Beach State, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon. After the series, the Aggies move to 15-11 overall and 2-4 in Best West Conference play.
Junior Taylor Fitzgerald (4-2) started and took the tough loss in the circle for UC Davis. The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on only three hits. Junior Kenedi Brown was dealing out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out two.
Offensively, the Aggies were paced once again by junior Anna Dethlefson, who went 2-for-3 on the day. Dethlefson was brilliant all series long as the Fair Oaks native was only put out twice on the weekend, going 7-for-9 from the plate with a home run a four stolen bases.
UC Davis managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position, which was a bugaboo for the Ags all series.
The Aggies will hit the road for a three-game conference set at Cal State Bakersfield. The two teams will begin the series with a twin-bill on Saturday, April 1.
