DAVIS, Calif. --The UC Davis Aggies dropped their first contest of 2023, falling to Rutgers, 5-1, Saturday afternoon at La Rue Field. After the day, the Aggies move to 3-1 on the young season.

Junior Kenedi Brown (1-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings. Junior Sarah Reineman was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going five shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking none and striking out one.

At the plate, the Aggies were led by junior Libbie McMahan, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double and an RBI. Junior Sarah Starks chipped in a 1-for-3 effort with a double. Junior Sarah Nakahara also contributed for UC Davis, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double.

The Aggies were trailing 5-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. UC Davis got on the board thanks to McMahan's RBI double. The Aggies were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

UC Davis will close out the NorCal Kickoff with two games tomorrow. The Aggies open the final day against Utah Valley at 9:30 a.m.
