DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis football team (5-4, 3-3) heads to Pocatello to face Idaho State (3-6, 3-2) on Saturday, Nov. 11. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. PT at Holt Arena.
LAST TIME OUT
Lan Larison rushed for 136 yards and three scores to lead a running attack that totaled 219 yards on the ground. Miles Hastings threw for 246 yards and a touchdown and Samuel Gbatu, Jr. hauled in four passes for 70 yards and a score. Kavir Bains registered 12 total tackles, including nine solo stops. The Aggies posted 465 total yards in the winning effort.
SERIES HISTORY
The Aggies have enjoyed great success against the Bengals as they are 6-1 all-time. UCD took down ISU last season at home, 43-3. Ulonzo Gilliam, Jr., scored two touchdowns to become the all-time leading scorer in program history, surpassing the 274 points from Brady Stuart (2012-15). Gilliam, Jr. finished with 132 yards on 28 carries to notch his 21st career 100-yard rushing game.
Miles Hastings recorded 270 yards on 25-for-33 passing with two scores, while Justin Poerio hauled in five passes for a game-high 83 yards.
The only loss for the Aggies in the series came in the last meeting in Idaho, where the Ags were tripped up, 27-17.
A LOOK AT THE BENGALS
Idaho State enters the contest 3-6 overall and 3-3 in Big Sky play. Their three conference wins came over Northern Colorado, Eastern Washington and Portland State. Quarterback Jordan Cooke is second in the conference with 2,092 yards passing and receiver Chedon James leads the league with 79 catches, 792 yards and seven touchdowns. Calvin Pitcher leads the Bengals with 75 total tackles. He has recorded three for a loss and intercepted one pass.
HAWKINS CLASH
UC Davis head coach Dan Hawkins will go up against a very familiar face on Saturday. Cody Hawkins, the former offensive coordinator for his dad on the Aggie staff was named the new head coach at Idaho State. The contest will be the Big Sky version of the "Bowden Bowl" as Bobby, the legendary Florida State coach would face his son Tommy – then head coach at Clemson, from 1999-2007.
THE RETURN OF LAN
Running back Lan Larison returned to his home field for the first after rushing for 255 yards against Eastern Washington after missing three games due to injury. In his return at NAU, Larison eclipsed 100 yards on the ground, posting 101 on 24 carries. The Idaho native has rushed for over 100 yards in four of the six games he has played this year, including that career-best 255 against the Eagles. Against Portland State, Larison found the endzone three times and rushed for 136 yards. On the season, the versatile back has rushed 119 times for 716 yards and seven scores. He has also added 17 receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown. He leads the Big Sky with 119.3 yards per game and his 6.0 yards per carry is the most for any RB with over 100 carries on the year.
THE MAGICAL TRENT TOMPKINS
Trent Tompkins posted his best offensive performance in an Aggie uniform on the road at NAU. The Fresno native put together 231 all-purpose yards on the strength of a career-high 148 receiving yards, that included a 75-yard score. On the season, Tompkins has rushed for over 100 yards in a game, totaled over 100 yards receiving in a game and has returned punts and kicks. Overall, he leads the team with 741 all-purpose yards and paces the squad with 364 yards receiving on 41 catches.
IN THE RANKINGS
The consistent trend under the watch of head coach Dan Hawkins continues as the Aggies lead the league with the least number of penalties with 38. The offensive line is second in the conference with only nine sacks allowed and the defense is third in the Big Sky with allowing just 121.6 rushing yards per contest.
EATON CLIMBING THE TFL RANKS
After his three tackles for loss performance at Cal Poly, Eaton continues to climb the career TFL list. Entering the contest against Portland State, Eaton has 30.5 for his career. When the stat was officially was recognized in 2001, Eaton ranks third all-time in the Aggie record book.
HUTTON CONSECUTIVE CATCH STREAK
Receiver C.J. Hutton has caught at least one pass in 32-straight games. The Folsom product rushed for his third touchdown of the season and caught four passes for 54 yards against Montana. On the season, Hutton has 313 receiving yards and a score on 29 catches.
NEXT TIME OUT
The Aggies cap off the regular season when they host Sacramento State in the Causeway Classic. The annual contest is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 18 with kickoff slated for Noon at UC Davis Health Stadium.
