DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis football team (4-3, 2-2) returns to action after the bye week and travels to Flagstaff, Ariz. To face Northern Arizona University (2-5, 2-2) on Saturday, Oct. 28, with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. PT from Findlay Toyota Field.
The Aggies went into the bye week on a good note, earning a 17-16 win on the road at No. 22 Weber State.
Trent Tompkins rushed for a career-high 116 yards and
Miles Hastings tossed two touchdowns in the winning effort.
The matchup against Northern Arizona will mark the third straight season the Ags have faced the Lumberjacks after a bye. In the last two meetings, UCD has outscored NAU, 96-51. Head coach
Dan Hawkins is 4-1 in games after a bye while at the helm of the Aggie football program.
Saturday will mark the ninth meeting between the two conference foes as the series is tied, 4-4. UC Davis has won the last three games, scoring 40 or more points in each of those wins.
In the matchup last season, Hastings threw for 328 yards and two scores and also caught a touchdown, while
Ulonzo Gilliam, Jr. rushed for 150 yards and found the endzone twice.
The Aggies return to the national rankings as they are No. 25 in both the Stats Perform and Coaches poll.
Over the bye week,
Rex Connors garnered Midseason All-American honors by Phil Steele. The safety leads the team with 58 tackles and has one sack. His 9.7 sacks per game ranks second in the Big Sky. Connors equaled his career high with 17 tackles against Montana. The Utah native has tallied 10 or more tackles three times this season.
As a team, the Aggies lead the conference with 90-percent of their field goals made (9-of-10) and are second with just seven sacks allowed. The Ags also lead the league with the fewest penalties (28) and rank third in defensive yards allowed per game at 335 yards per tilt. UCD is also third with just 127.1 rushing yards per game.
After nearly a month away from UC Davis Health Stadium, the Aggies return to host Portland State on Saturday, Nov. 4. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
