DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis football team (3-2, 1-1) will host Montana (4-1, 1-1) in a Big Sky ranked affair this Saturday at 4 p.m. The game marks homecoming for the Aggies as they enter the week ranked 18/20 in the polls. The Griz are 13/17 this week after a win over Idaho State.
The Ags are coming off a convincing 31-13 victory to claim their seventh straight Golden Horseshoe against rival Cal Poly. Trent Tompkins paced the UC Davis attack with 89 yards on the ground and two scores. Miles Hastings threw for 242 yards and a score while C.J. Hutton caught seven passes for 77 yards.
Defensively, Rex Connors tallied seven tackles, forced a fumble, and had an interception. Evan Tattersall had six tackles and a sack, while Nick Eaton had three tackles for loss, including two sacks. As a team, the Aggies registered nine tackles for loss.
After his three tackles for loss performance, Eaton continues to climb the career TFL list. Entering the contest against Montana, Eaton has 29.5 for his career. When the stat was officially was recognized in 2001, Eaton ranks third all-time in the Aggie record book.
The Aggies enter the week No. 18 in the Coaches' Poll and No. 20 in the Stats Perform Top-25. The Ags have been ranked in the top-25 every week this season.
Montana leads the overall series, 8-1. A series short in meetings but long in history, with the first matchup between the two dating back to 1926, a 21-0 win for the Griz in Missoula.
In that time Montana is 4-0 on the road in Davis, with the lone Aggie win in the series coming in 2018 in Missoula, 49-21.
Despite missing a game, Lan Larison still leads the league in rushing yards per game at 119.8 per contest and is second in the conference with 479 yards on the ground. The same goes for all-purpose yards as he leads the league at 151.3 yards per game. His 605 yards rank second in the Big Sky.
Rex Connors continues to rack up the tackles, the ballhawk is second in the conference with nine tackles per contest and is eighth with his 36 total tackles. He is also second in passes defensed at 1.50 per game.
The versatile Trent Tompkins came off a nice game and now has 370 all purpose yards, eclipsing 100 yards in both rushing and receiving and has also returned punts and kicks. He is averaging 74 yards per contest.
Receiver C.J. Hutton has caught at least one pass in 28-straight games. The Folsom product rushed for a touchdown and caught seven passes for 77 yards in the win at Cal Poly. On the season Hutton has 165 receiving yards and a score and two rushing touchdowns.
The Aggies will hit the road and face Weber State on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Ogden, Utah.
