STANFORD, Calif. — The UC Davis women's tennis team took on some of the best competition on the west coast's this weekend at the Stanford University hosted ITA Northwest Regional Championships. 

Likely the largest event the team will participate in all season, the tournament field included 64 doubles teams and 128 singles players sourced from 19 different schools.

Carly Schwartzberg and Michelle Zell advanced out of their first round matchup in doubles play with a 8-4 win over a duo from Santa Clara University. 

Daisy and Olive Maunupau narrowly lost to Eva Alvarez Sande and Elyse Tse, the 25th ranked doubles tandem in the nation, in their opening doubles match. The Maunupau sisters took the Washington State duo to a 12-point tiebreaker set.

Arianna Stavropoulos was the lone Aggie to advance out of the first round in singles play. Stavropoulos took down Gonzaga's Tiegan Aitken in a tightly contested three set match before falling to Sacramento State's Mayya Gorbunova in the round of 64. 

Schwartzberg, Kaia Wolfe and Daisy Maunupau each won a consolation match in Saturday singles play.
