DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis saw its three-game win streak come to an end when Long Beach State caused problems for the Aggies all day long, earning the 66-45 win on Saturday afternoon inside the University Credit Union Center.
UC Davis (9-11, 5-5) committed a season-high 25 turnovers and shot just 33.3% as a team in the defeat. The Aggies won the rebounding battle 35-32 but a hot-shooting Long Beach State team was too much to handle as the visitors hit nine threes at a 47.4% clip.
Evanne Turner carried the load for UC Davis offensively as the Fontana native knocked down a career-high six three-pointers in her 20-point display.
Megan Norris was solid in her 24 minutes of action, contributing seven points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Aggies got some solid showings off the bench as
Megan Jones chipped in five points while
Sydney Burns grabbed seven boards and handed out two assists.
Four members of the Beach scored in double figures as Tori Harris led her team with 14 points on the day.
How It Happened
The visitors immediately made their presence felt with a quick 6-0 run to start the contest. Turner finally got her team on the board with her first triple of the day, but eight turnovers would plague UC Davis who fell behind 19-7 after the first 10 minutes.
Long Beach State started to pull away in the second period and extended the lead beyond 20 points. The Aggies went just 6-for-26 and committed 14 total turnovers in the first half, allowing the Beach to take a commanding lead into the locker room.
UC Davis regrouped and managed to win the second half behind Turner's impressive shooting from range. The junior went 3-of-7 from beyond the arc for nine second-half points and Norris started to find the shooting touch with five points of her own to help close the gap. Despite out-scoring the Beach 27-24, the Aggies were unable to recover from their rough start and the visitors snatched the 66-45 victory.
