Davis, Calif. — The second leg of the two game road trip saw the UC Davis Men's Basketball Team (13-9, 6-4) lose a nail biter to Long Beach State. Ending with a score of 75-72, the Aggies leaned heavily on the scoring prowess of Ty Johnson and Elijah Pepper who combined for 60 points. Tying his career-high, Johnson scored 32 points on 12-21 shooting from the field. This is the sixth 20+ point game for Johnson. The conference's steal leader also added three swipes during the game.
Elijah Pepper who has been red-hot as of late, recording double figures in seven straight games, scored 28 points on 7-20 shooting from the field. Pepper also had four steals, tying his season-high mark he set during the opener against Cal.
Providing pesky defense off the bench, Sione Losé tied the game-high with four steals and led UC Davis in box +/- with a +8 rating in 22 minutes of action.
GAME NOTES
- UC Davis finished the game 23-58 from the field (39.7%)
- After struggling in the first half going just 1-9 from three point land, UC Davis finished 8-23 from behind the arc.
- Aggies were 18-24 (75%) from the free throw line.
- Entering the contest as the second rebounding team in the nation, Long Beach State hauled in 40 rebounds while UC Davis had 31.
- Leading The Beach tonight was this week's Big West Player of the Week, Marcus Tsohonis who had 21 points. The Beach also has a standout performance from Lassina Traore who had 15 points and 15 rebounds.
- UC Davis had 12 steals compared to Long Beach State who recorded nine as a team.
