AMES, Iowa – The UC Davis gymnastics team closed out their season-opening three meet road trip with a runner-up finish in a tri-meet with host Iowa State and Eastern Michigan Friday evening. The Cyclones won the meet with a score of 194.075, while the Aggies followed at 193.675 and the Eagles were third at 193.575.
The Aggies outdistanced the competition on the bars with a 48.275 and posted their highest score of the tri-meet on the beam with a 48.625. The highest scorer for the Aggies on the evening was
Kaitlyn Lyle, who finished tied for second on the beam with a 9.825.
VAULT
The Ags finished with a 48.425 on vault, as
Emma Otsu was the high scorer for UCD with a 9.75.
Megan Ray closely followed at 9.725.
BARS
On bars, the Aggies paced ISU and EMU with a 48.275.
Isabella Fitz-Gerald led the squad with a 9.725. Lyle followed at 9.70.
BEAM
In their best event of the meet, with a team-high score of 48.625, the Ags posted four scores of 9.70 or higher. Lyle hit her highest score of the meet with a 9.825 and teamed up with
Rachel Schuelke (9.775),
Ava Scafani (9.750) and a 9.725 from Ray.
FLOOR
On floor,
Keanna Abraham and Anna Holton connected on identical 9.725 scores as Ray followed at 9.70 for a final score of 48.350 in the event.
NEXT TIME OUT
The Aggies will return home for their next meet as they will host the United States Air Force Academy and the University of Alaska-Anchorage on January 29
th. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
