La Jolla, Calif. — After trailing at half, the UC Davis Men's Basketball Team (11-7, 4-2) stormed back in the final 20 minutes to outscore the Tritons 48-33 and ultimately come out of La Jolla with a 78-70 win. The win extends the UC Davis streak to four games. Leading the charge yet again was Elijah Pepper who recorded game-highs in points and assists after scoring 20 and setting up his teammates six times.
Scoring more points than their season average for the second straight game, it was yet another day where the Aggies relied on their defensive pressure to bring them back into the contest. Recording just two steals in the first half, the Ags picked up their intensity and finished the game with eight and in the process, scoring 21 points off turnovers in comparison to UC San Diego's 13.
Going into the contest, the Aggies have been known to be one of the best rebounding teams in the nation. It showed Monday afternoon as the Aggies won the rebounding battle 34-21. With the extra possessions and ability to control the glass, UC Davis recorded 13 second chance points.
The UC Davis offense presented UC San Diego a balanced attack after having three players reach double figures, with seven rotational members scoring.
Christian Anigwe and
Ty Johnson both had 17 points in their 30 minutes of action. With UC Davis powered by their normal crew of leading scorers,
Kane Milling and
Leo DeBruhl each came up with big three pointers in the second half.
UC San Diego leaned on the third leading scorer in the Big West, Bryce Pope, as well as Roddie Anderson III who both scored 18 points.
