Verona, Wisc. — The UC Davis Aggies currently sit at 11th place in the Badger Invitational being held at University Ridge Golf Course. Skyler May and Abby Leighton both finished 1-over-par after shooting 73's and find themselves tied for 12th among individual players.
The lineup for the Aggies included: Naomi Danner, Skyler May, Elle Rastvortseva, Abby Leighton, and Lauren Calderon.
UC Davis recorded 55 pars on the day as a team with 11 birdies and are 12-over-par. The Ags trail leading Notre Dame by 16 strokes who had a blazing start to the tournament after shooting 4-under-par as a team through round one.
May and Leighton played consistent golf all day after both shooting just 1-over-par on the front nine while proceeding to shoot even over the back nine. Each were able to collect three birdies on the day. After shooting bogey's on holes 12 and 13, May was able to bounce back and collect two of her three birdies on holes 15 and 17 as she will look to carry that momentum into tomorrow's round. Leighton was among the tournament's best on Par 5's all day as she was able to shoot two of her birdies on holes six and 11, both of which were Par 5's to help her place among the top half of players after round one.
Elle Rastvortseva finished the day 4-over-par. Starting off the front nine just 1-over-par, Rastvortseva was able to collect two birdies on the back nine but in the process collected a few bogey's dropping her to 3-over-par over the back nine. She will look to continue her strong play tomorrow when play resumes.
Lauren Calderon makes her first appearence for the Aggies and in her collegiate debut, she was able to shoot a 6-over-par. After struggling a little on the front nine, she quickly settled in on the back nine and registered two birdies en route to a 1-under-par back nine. After getting her first appearance under her belt, Calderon will look to continue her under-par performance on day two.
After getting her first ever top 10 finish in an Aggie uniform last week at the Hobble Creek Classic, Naomi Danner was 7-over-par today on round one. After leading all team members in pars on the day with 13, she will look to turn some of those into birdies the following round and continue her leap of progression as a player from the previous year.
