El Paso, Tex. -
Leslie Fregoso,
Risa Yamada, and
Molly Branigan each scored and UC Davis (1-0) rolled to a season-opening 3-0 win over UTEP on Thursday night in El Paso.
Fregoso and Yamada's goals come just three days after both were named to the Big West Conference Preseason Coaches' Team. Thursday's win also made it three straight seasons in which the Aggies have won their season opener, making Head Coach
Tracy Hamm undefeated in season openers.
The Aggies did all their damage over a 5:24 stretch in the second half.
Taylour Mendoza found
Molly Branigan for a score at the 53:39 mark and
Alana Curtis and Fregoso set up Yamada 2:11 later to put UC Davis up 2-0. Fregoso capped the scoring in the 59th minute off an assist from Branigan.
It was an outstanding night for UC Davis' defense as the Miners got off just four shots and only two on target, both saved by
Caeley Goldstein who made her Aggie debut Thursday.
UC Davis return to California but face another road match on Sunday at Santa Clara. That game is slated for 1 p.m.
