UC Davis signs Head Coach Dwayne Shaffer to contract extension

Davis, Calif. - UC Davis has signed Head Coach Dwayne Shaffer to a three-year contract extension, Athletics Director Rocko DeLuca announced.

The contract will keep Shaffer with UC Davis through at least the 2025 season.

"First of all, I want to thank Rocko Deluca and (Senior Associate Athletic Director) Josh Flushman for granting me the opportunity to extend my contract," Shaffer said. "And also for believing in me to continue leading the UC Davis men's soccer program. I am truly grateful for their support. The contract extension allows me and my staff the opportunity to continue coaching these amazing student-athletes."

Shaffer has guided Aggie soccer through multiple eras and divisions, reaching new heights as he enters his 27th year at the helm in 2022.

The Aggies have advanced to at least the Big West Tournament Semifinal in four consecutive seasons, winning the conference title in 2019 and advancing the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Six of Shaffer's players have gone on to be selected in the Major League Soccer draft with his players earning 64 All-Big West Conference honors over the last 14 seasons.

He is a three-time Big West Conference Coach of the Year and guided the Aggies to the Big West Tournament Semifinal in 2021 in UC Davis' return to competition after the cancellation of the 2020 season.

"I have enjoyed every minute of my coaching career here at UC Davis," Shaffer added. "It has been an incredible 25 year journey at an awesome university. My wife, Lara, and I have thoroughly enjoyed living in Davis, raising our two daughters, Shay and Skye, here in Davis and now we look forward to a few more years of success."
