Davis, Calif. - UC Davis carried a lead into the sixth inning on Sunday against UC Santa Barbara but the Gauchos came out on top 11-3 in Sunday's series finale.
After falling behind 0-1 in the top of the third, the Aggies led off the fifth with three straight singles by
Mark Wolbert,
Jake Brandel and
Luke Piazza with Piazza's hit up the middle scoring Wolbert.
Kyler Arenado drew a two-out walk to extend the inning and
J.D. Mico singled on a dribbler up the third base line to drive in Brandel with an error bringing in Piazza.
The Gauchos retook the lead on a three-run homer in the top of the sixth though and held UC Davis hitless after the fifth inning.
Bryan Green pitched into the seventh for the Aggies, allowing just an unearned run on three hits through five innings. The freshman left with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh and a final line of 6 2/3 innings with three earned runs on three hits with three strike outs. With the game still in reach at 3-4,
Nate Lemos entered in relief and got a fly ball to left to end the inning.
UC Santa Barbara added four runs in the eighth and three in the ninth to pull away.
Wolbert and Brandel each went 1-3 with a run scored, Piazza went 1-2 with a run and an RBI and Mico and Henrickson each went 1-4.
UC Davis will have a quick turnaround to face San Jose State in San Jose on Tuesday before heading to UC Riverside for a three-game set next weekend.
