SAN JOSE, Calif. – The UC Davis gymnastics team used an MPSF record 49.300 on the vault to score 196.000 against San Jose State Sunday afternoon at the San Jose Event Center. Despite a second straight week of 196, the Aggies fell, 196.625-196.000.
The 196.625 marked the second time this season that the Spartans used a school-record score to down the Aggies. UC Davis has now scored 196 or more in back-to-back meets to mark the first time in school history the Aggies were 196 or above twice in the same season.
Senior
Kyla Kessler boasted her second straight 39.375 in the all-around to equal the third best score in program history. The senior won the final event on the day with a 9.90 on the beam to tie her career high.
The Aggies posted a school record score on the vault with a 49.300 as a pair of freshmen led the charge.
Emily Pires and
Keanna Abraham shared individual honors with career-bests 9.90.
On the floor, UC Davis eclipsed the 49-mark for the fifth consecutive meet, posting a 49.075. Kessler paced the Aggies with a 9.850 to tie for fourth.
To start the meet, UC Davis scored a 48.950 on bars as senior
Gabby Landess places third with a 9.835. The Aggies closed out the competition with a 48.675 on beam. Before Kessler grabbed the event win,
Rachel Schuelke-Lombardi tied for third with a 9.875.
UC Davis continues on the road when the Aggies once against face Sacramento State. The Causeway rivals will meet on Saturday, March 5 at the Hornet Nest.
