ISLA VISTA, Calif. - UC Davis put up its highest scoring quarter of the season in the fourth on Saturday afternoon but fell 65-63 to UC Santa Barbara in Isla Vista.
The Aggies outscored UC Santa Barbara 29-20 overall in the final period, outdoing a 28 point first quarter against Cal Poly on Feb. 17.
The Aggies (13-11, 7-7) had three players score in double figures, led by Evanne Turner's 22 points and two steals. Cierra Hall had on a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds and Kayla Konrad chipped in as well with 11 points and four assists, her second straight game in double figures.
UC Davis out-rebounded the Gauchos 41-33, led by Hall's 12 boards. The Aggies also turned a season-high 15 offensive rebounds in 13 second chance points.
Trailing 47-33 after the Gauchos opened the fourth quarter with free throws, UC Davis held serve before going on a furious comeback over the final five minutes.
UC Davis narrowed its deficit to 63-55 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Hall's layup, to shrink the deficit to 63-62 with 18 seconds to go in the contest. Though the Aggies outscored UC Santa Barbara 17-8 over the final five minutes of regulation, the Gauchos were able to hit free throws inside the final 10 seconds to pull away.
The Aggies will return home to face Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton to close out the regular season, with Saturday, Mar. 5 being senior day at University Credit Union Center.
