Aggies Showcase a 196.325; Run Away from the Competition

DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis gymnastics team posted its best score since 2018, hammering the competition with a 196.325, Sunday afternoon from the University Credit Union Center.

The Aggies outdistanced Texas Women's University (194.275), Air Force (193.550), and Alaska Anchorage (191.900) in what was the fourth-highest score in school history. UC Davis last scored over 196 on March 2, 2018, with a 196.350 against the Falcons. The 196.325 is the sixth-highest team score in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation history.

On what was senior night, it was fitting that senior Kyla Kessler put together one of the finest performances of her Aggie career. Kessler posted the third-highest all-around score in school history with a personal best score of 39.375.

The Fremont native finished her meet with a career-high 9.925 to win the floor exercise. The score marked the second-straight week that Kessler has been 9.9 or above on the floor. The senior started the day, equaling her career-high 9.875 in the vault to share top honors with freshman Emily Pires. Freshman Keanna Abraham took third with a 9.850.

The Aggies also swept the bars (49.100) and the floor (49.350) as Gabby Landess posted a career-best 9.90 to win the bars on her senior day. Sophomore Emma Otsu was the runner-up with a personal best of 9.850, while Kessler followed in third at 9.80. The floor team total was tied for seventh all-time in MPSF history.

On the floor, the newcomer duo of Abraham and Megan Ray followed Kessler with 9.90s to tie for second. Fellow freshman Ava Scafani won the beam with a best 9.90. Otsu completed a personal best of 39.300 to finish second in the all-around.

The Aggies will hit the road for the rest of the regular season as they face San Jose State on Sunday, Feb. 27.
