Davis, Calif. — Taking a two-point lead into the half, the game was a story of two completely different halves after the Aggies dropped today's contest by a score of 68-79 against Eastern Washington. UC Davis Men's Basketball is now 7-4 on the year and will have one more non-conference matchup before starting Big West play. Eastern Washington improves to 5-7.
GAME NOTES
- Asserting their physicality and surprising Eastern Washington with their speed, the Aggies jumped out to an early 10-4 lead, behind three straight forced turnovers.
- The Aggies greatest lead in the first half was an eight point margin that occurred around the 6:30 mark.
- Ball movement was on full display in the first half and something Eastern Washington had trouble containing for most of the first 20 minutes, with the Aggies carrying the lead for most of that time.
- The Aggies were led by Elijah Pepper who scored 14 of his 25 points in the first half with the Aggies taking a 37-35 lead into the half.
- Averaging far below the season average of 81.5 points per game today, UC Davis struggled to find their groove from deep, shooting only 3-20 from three point range.
- The Aggies shot 37% from the field in comparison to the Eagles who shot nearly 50% from the field.
- After forcing 13 turnovers in the first half, the Eagles adjusted and were the aggressor the second half after they were able to force 11 Aggie turnovers and score 14 of their 44 second half points off turnovers.
- Sticking to the theme, the Aggies were yet again forcing the issue and came away with 25 free throw attempts and was a primary source of offense on a day the Ags struggled from the field.
- Coming into this contest as a top-five rebounding team in the nation, it was the first time the Aggies have been out rebounded since their Nov. 12 match against LMU.
- A 12-0 run in the second half for the Eagles capped off the tale of two different halves for today's game.
- Leading Eagles was Cedric Coward who scored 15 points on 5-6 shooting from the field, while three other Eagles chipped in with double figures.
