SAN LUIS OBISPO – The UC Davis women's soccer team (9-6-4, 6-2-2) dropped a physical matchup against UC Irvine (9-5-6, 3-2-5) in double overtime, 1-0, on Thursday in the semifinal round of the Big West Conference Championship Tournament at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
The two teams totaled 27 fouls and three cards during the full 90 minutes and it took until nearly eight minutes into the second overtime for a team to breakthrough with a goal.
UCI forward Alyssa Moore was credited with the game-winner when finished an Amber Huff pass. Moore came off the bench and fired off two shots on goal in her 47 minutes of play.
The Anteaters outshot the Aggies, 15-13, as
Leslie Fregoso led all players with four shots.
Lindsey Porter and
Lexi Trucco tallied three shots apiece.
Caeley Goldstein made four saves in the full 110 minutes in goal. UCI keeper Gio Hinojosa earned the win on the strength of four saves en route to the shutout.
The defeat was the first for the Aggies since Oct. 6 as the five-match winning streak spanned nearly a month. The six conference wins were the most by any UCD team since joining the Big West.
