SACRAMENTO — The UC Davis men's soccer team traveled across the Causeway for its final match of the regular season as they took on Sacramento State. The Aggies scored two goals in the first half en route to a 2-1 regular season-ending victory in the men's soccer version of the Causeway Classic.
The Aggies (5-8-4, 4-3-2 Big West) struck first just nine minutes into the match off a
Max Glasser right-footed shot to the bottom right of the goal after a pass from Lucas Fernandez-Kim. The Aggies would convert another right-footed goal in the 28
th minute, this time off the foot of Ethan Hoard after passes from Kevin Welch and Ryan Dieter.
The Hornets (9-7-2, 4-5 Big West) would gain their tally in the 50
th minute on a Bryan Gutierrez shot after a pass from Christo Cervantes.
Eight different Aggies had one shot apiece while Dominic Vegaalban had a match-high three shots to lead the Hornets
The Aggies had three more shots on goal (6-3) than did the Hornets and both teams had four corner kicks. The physical rivalry match featured 30 fouls and four yellow cards, two going to each team.
The Aggies will now await their fate for postseason play at the 2022 Big West Conference Men's Soccer Championship tournament.
