Stanford, Calif. — In what was a very competitive field of teams at the Stanford Intercollegiate, the Aggies first round miscues proved to be too much to recover from a team perspective. Even after shooting a 292 as a team on the third and final round, UC Davis Women's Golf found themselves in 19th place at the end.
Abby Leighton shot an impressive 69 during the Sunday morning finale as she ended up tied for 35th place among all individuals. Her previous high round score of the season was a 73 at the Badger Invitational. An All-Big West member last year, Leighton will use this last round and tournament as momentum into the Spring Season where the Aggies will lean on her to make yet another splash on the conference.
Skyler May continued her steady play during the final round as she put together her best score of the tournament with a one-over-par, 73. The newcomer has been exactly the jolt UC Davis Women's Golf was hoping she'd be and has immediately shown to be a big contributor for years to come. She finished the Stanford Intercollegiate tied for 62nd.
Naomi Danner was also able to shoot a 77 on the final round as she ended up tied for 88th in the field. After taking a top-10 finish in the first tournament of the year, Danner will look to reclaim that feeling when the Spring Season begins as the Aggies are excited to see her keep growing as a player and leader for the program.
Elle Rastvortseva and Lauren Calderon finished out strong after not performing up to their expectations during day one and bounced back in a big way. Rastvortseva was able to shoot a 74 during Round 3 and finished at 16-over-par for the tournament. Lauren Calderon finished Round 3 with a 75, good for 22-over-par in total. The freshman will continue to get better throughout the season and has shown in both of her tournament appearances so far that she has the mental makeup to make adjustments from day-to-day.
The Stanford Intercollegiate signals the end of Fall Competiton for UC Davis and will have a long break before we see them again. They are slated to resume play Monday, Feb. 6 in Bakersfield as CSU Bakersfield will host The Valley Invitational.
