DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis men's tennis team concluded their spring season opening weekend on the road, dropping a 5-2 decision to LMU, Sunday morning from the LMU Tennis Center.  

The doubles point set the tone for the rest of the morning as each score was within two games. That proved to be the case in singles as seven sets were decided by two games or less.

Junior Andrei Volgin was resilient at the No. 1 spot. Volgin raced out to a commanding start, winning set one, 6-0. After dropping the second set, 6-4, the Fremont native won the breaker in set three over Rana-Roop Bhullar, 8-6.

Freshman Ryan Morgan earned the other singles victory for the Aggies, downing Daniel Moreno in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Juniors Brett Brinkman and Mitchell Davis both had three-set heartbreakers. Brinkman won the first set, 7-6, but then dropped the final two, 4-6, 2-6. Davis battled in the first set to Arthur Pantino but fell, 6-7, and then rallied in set two to even the score with a 6-3 winner. Pantino squeezed out the victory with a close 7-5 in set three.

The Aggies will open spring play at home next weekend as UC Davis will host Nevada and American River College on Saturday, Jan. 29.
