Four standouts join Aggie women's tennis

DAVIS, Calif. – Claire Galerkin, Daisy Maunupau, Madeleine Page and Arianna Stavropoulos are the newest members of UC Davis' women's tennis program, as announced by head coach Bill Maze. All four will arrive to campus this fall as true freshmen.

"Usually women's tennis brings in two or three new student-athletes per year," said Maze. "This year we are so fortunate to have four bright, athletic and talented young women joining the Ags.

"When Sara and I look at the considerable strengths of Arianna, Claire, Maddi and Daisy, combined with the talent of our returners, we feel this could be one of our stronger teams.  We can't wait to start working with them in the fall."

Maunupau, the younger sister of current Aggie Olive Maunupau, lettered in both tennis and basketball at San Francisco's Lick-Wilmerding High School while starring out of Golden Gate Park. The sisters won three straight Doubles Players of the Year awards on the club scene, while Daisy captured two All-Bay Counties League awards plus the San Francisco Examiner's Sophomore of the Year honor.

A four-year letterwinner at St. Ignatious College Prep, Galerkin earned All-West Catholic Athletic League First Team honors each season, entered her senior season as a three-time league singles champion and conference Player of the UYear as her team's top player. Due to her successful high school career and leadership skills, teammates selected her as one of its captains for the 2021 season.

Galerkin is the second member of her family to compete at the collegiate level since her brother, Steven, was a member of University of the Sciences men's tennis team. The four-year St. Ignatious College Prep Principal's Honor Roll recipient is also the youngest Olympian of the Year award, as bestowed by the Olympic Club (San Francisco) to a top local talent.

Stavropoulos, a 2019 Southern California Tennis Association Junior Doubles Sectional 18s champion, led her team to deep CIF-Southern Section playoff runs in each of her first three years at Los Angeles Marlboro School — highlighted by a berth in the finals during her junior season. The three-time All-Mission League First Team selection earned league doubles MVP as a freshman, and singles MVP accolades as a sophomore and junior. During her second season at Marlboro School, Stavropoulos also ended the CIF-SS playoffs as a doubles finalist.

Page led Palo Alto High School to an upset victory versus the top-ranked team in the Central Coast Section during her sophomore season. That also marked the second year in a row that she represented her team as its No. 1 singles player. Before she transferred to Laurel Springs High School for her junior and senior seasons, Page was named team captain and finished second in the section's doubles postseason tournament. Throughout her USTA career, she finished third in the 2018 and 2019 NorCal Doubles Sectionals, won a doubles title at Vegas Level 3 and finished first at the 2019 Diamond Hill Junior Championships. Page also earned a spot in the finals of the 2020 Johnson Ranch Girls' 18 Junior Singles Championship and was ranked as high as No. 153 during her high school career.
