LONG BEACH, Calif. – Small ball helped UC Davis score the first run of Sunday's Big West Conference season finale in the top of the second inning, a scoring opportunity that started with Isaiah Verrett's leadoff single up the middle. The next two batters, J.D. Mico and Nick Iverson each dropped perfect sacrifice bunts; Mico reached base on a Long Beach State throwing error and Iverson pushed both teammates to scoring position during his at bat.

Once Jalen Smith joined Verrett and Mico on base after he was plunked by LBSU starter Jack Noble, Cooper Morrison drove in the Aggies' inaugural run on a single to center.

Following a scoreless third inning, UC Davis' lead grew to three when Smith hit his team-high fifth home run, driving in Iverson in the process after he reached base on a walk.

After Brett Erwin held the Dirtbags scoreless for the fourth inning in a row — they only mustered a pair of hits entering the fifth — UC Davis lit up the scoreboard once again when Jackson O'Boy hits first home run as an Aggie on a solo shot to left center that extended his team's lead to 4-0.

It was a pair of home runs that led to Long Beach State's first lead of the day: The Dirtbags scored three on a swing that took place in the bottom of the fifth, and pushed another pair across the plate in the seventh on another long ball after tying the game at 4-4, on a RBI double, in the preceding at bat.

UC Davis dominated Sunday's game for the first six innings, but it was a six-run seventh inning, which included a pair of doubles, Long Beach's second home run of the day and a sacrifice fly that allowed the Dirtbags to end the weekend by scoring 10 unanswered — their final run was scored in the eighth — after UC Davis opened the day's action by recording four straight runs to leave Bohl Diamond at Blair Field with a 10-4 result.

The series finale wrapped up the 2021 season for the Aggies, who finished with a 14-43 overall record, 8-32 league mark, and the careers for 11 members of the program's Class of 2021: Erwin, Colton EvansSpencer GedestadNick Johnson, Morrison, O'Boy, Steve OuelletteRyan Rodriguez, Verrett, Tim Wieser and Dexter Wilkerson.

Long Beach State ends its season at 28-15 overall and 26-14 in conference play.
