DAVIS, Calif. – Before starting its Big West Conference game versus Cal Poly, UC Davis baseball honored its 11-member graduating class — Brett Erwin, Colton Evans, Spencer Gedestad, Nick Johnson, Cooper Morrison, Jackson O'Boy, Steve Ouellette, Ryan Rodriguez, Isaiah Verrett, Tim Wieser and Dexter Wilkerson — in addition to four members from the program's Class of 2020 — Andres Lara, Alec Smith, Justin Smith and Wyatt Tucker since COVID forced a premature end to last season's schedule — in Sunday afternoon's pregame ceremony at Phil Swimley Field.

Once action started, Kyler Arenado quickly gave the Aggies a 1-0 lead when he hit a two-out solo home run over the fence in left center in the second inning.

Even though Cal Poly recorded its first runs of the day when it returned to the plate in the third, when two Mustangs scored on three singles in as many at bats, UC Davis pulled even in the bottom of the fifth when Verrett brought the crowd to its feet after he smacked a solo shot of his own to left field.

A 2-2 score lasted until the top of the seventh when the Mustangs opened the frame with three singles; combined with an Aggie error that loaded the bases and a double play that led to its final run of the inning, Cal Poly pushed three players across the plate to take the lead for good in a game it won by a 6-2 score.

In addition to UC Davis starter Erwin who struck out a pair of Mustangs throughout his six innings on the mound, pitchers Ryan Rodriguez and Steve Ouelette also appeared in their final game at Phil Swimley Field since Sunday's matchup was the team's last home event of 2021.

The Aggies will end the season at Long Beach State and enter Friday's 6 p.m. contest at 14-39 overall and 8-28 against league teams. Cal Poly will return home for its final series of the year with records of 27-25 and 17-19.

UC Davis' upcoming road series in Long Beach will continue with Saturday's 12 p.m. doubleheader and conclude on Sunday at 1 p.m. Video stream and live stats links for all four games between the Beach and Aggies are available at UCDavisAggies.com.
