TUCSON, Ariz. — UC Davis closed out the two-day Arizona Invitational with a pair of victories on Saturday, posting identical 4-1 victories over Colorado Mesa and Missouri State on Saturday at Bear Down Beach in Tucson, Ariz.
The Aggies finished 2-2 at the event and improved to 5-12 overall on the year, winning back-to-back duals for the second time this season and winning the first-ever meetings between the programs on Saturday.
UC Davis opened the day by quickly dispatching the Mavericks in the opener, winning the top four in the lineup in straight sets before dropping a heart-breaker in three sets at the fives. Three of the Aggies' wins in the second half of the double header also came in straight sets, with
Summer Bouquet and
Bailey Herdman clinching the win thanks to their, 21-13, 21-15, triumph at the fives.
After taking home UC Davis' lone point of the day on Friday, the ones pair of
Paloma Bowman and
Colleen McGuire continued their streak of wins, posting a 21-14, 21-12, win over CMU's Maddi Foutz and Holly Schmidt, and a 21-19, 21-8, win over the Bears' Tyler Garrett and Chloe Filipski. The pair has won five of their last seven, improving to 6-7 at the top spot in the lineup and 7-10 overall on the year.
UC Davis returns to the sand on Friday (April 9) at 9 a.m., hosting Pepperdine in a doubleheader at the UC Davis Beach Volleyball Courts, opening a run of five consecutive home contests.
