Lengtat's double hat trick leads Aggies past Pacific

No. 11 UC Davis wins fourth straight heading into Big West play

Junior utility Alyssa Lengtat netted a career-high six goals while junior center Noelle Wijnbelt added another four, leading No. 11 UC Davis to a 14-10 win over No. 18 Pacific in collegiate women's water polo action at Kjeldsen Pool Sunday afternoon.

The Aggies pick up their fourth straight win, improving to 4-2 for the year. The Tigers dip to 1-2 overall.

Lengtat, who entered the game with just three goals for the year and 13 in her previous seasons, also had two steals in the contest. Allyson Clague chipped in other two goals, while Emily Aikema and Julia Hartmann each scored one.

UC Davis converted four of its seven power-play chances, including two in the first two minutes of the game. Pacific eventually evened the score at 3-3 at 4:54 in the second on Lucy Davis' 6-on-5 goal, but Hartmann and Lengtat each found the back of the net in the next 50 seconds to reclaim the Aggie lead. Wijnbelt scored back to back later in the frame to complete a hat trick and boost UC Davis to a 7-4 halftime edge.

The Aggies outpaced the Tigers throughout the second half, holding a 10-7 lead through the third. Pacific closed the gap to two to start the fourth, but Lengtat and Aikema combined for three goals down the stretch to seal the win.

UC Davis kicks off Big West Conference play on Friday against UC Irvine. The day will consist of a doubleheader, with a conference matchup as the opener and a non-league game as the nighcap.
