FULLERTON, Calif. -- Junior second baseman
Sommer Kisling and senior center fielder
Marissa Jauregui had UC Davis' only hits in a 3-0 loss to Cal State Fullerton during Big West Conference women's softball action at Anderson Family Field Sunday afternoon.
The Aggies slip to 6-16 for the year and 0-3 in conference. The Titans improve to 18-11 overall and begin the Big West race with a 3-0 mark.
Jauregui, who also reached twice on walks, had the Aggies first hit in the second, sending a single down the third-base line. Kisling collected a single in the third inning, then moved up to second when senior shortstop
Isabella Leon hit a comebacker to pitcher Sophie Frost. UC Davis never moved a runner beyond second base, as Frost hurled a shutout for her eighth win.
Second-year freshman
Kenedi Brown went the distance for the Aggies, allowing eight hits and walking four in 6.0 innings. The Titans took their lead in the fourth inning, pushing across two runs on four hits. A Kelsie Whitmore walk loaded the bases and threatened further scoring, but Brown struck out Megan Delgadillo for the third out, ending the rally. Catcher Julia Valenzuela drove in another run in the fifth to score second baseman KK Humphreys for Cal State Fullerton's third run. Again, the Titans managed to load the bases, only to have Brown punch out the next batter to close the inning.
The Aggies have now lost seven straight games, all on the road. They return to action for a three-game home set with Long Beach State on Saturday and Sunday, March 27-28.
