Hawkins, Cody assume new roles on football staff

Cody Hawkins becomes offensive coordinator, Mike Cody takes over receivers room

DAVIS, Calif. -- Cody Hawkins, UC Davis' assistant director of football operations and recruiting, has been named the team's offensive coordinator, announced head coach Dan Hawkins Monday. Furthermore, assistant offensive line coach Mike Cody will become the Aggies' wide receiver coach.

The younger Hawkins currently serves his fourth year with UC Davis. He began as a volunteer assistant, then took over the role of assistant director of football operations and recruiting following the Aggies' Big Sky Conference champion 2018 season. In 2019, Hawkins guided junior Khris Vaughn to a breakout year: 53 catches, 756 yards, a team-leading nine receiving touchdowns, and All-Big Sky honorable mention. The former quarterback at the University of Colorado brought high school, collegiate and international experience, highlighted by stints at Ohio State and the U.S. National Team prior to his arrival at UC Davis.

Cody, a former UC Davis tight end, joined the Aggies as an assistant to offensive line coach Tim Keane during the team's 2020 winter camp. It also marked a brief reunion with Plough, with whom he coached at Northern Arizona from 2014-15. Cody also served under another noted UC Davis figure, Mike Moroski, as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at the College of Idaho.

The assignments of Hawkins and Cody come as a result of the departure of associate head coach and offensive coordinator Tim Plough, who has accepted another coaching opportunity.

UC Davis football is scheduled to begin its 2020-21 season on February 27 against Cal Poly.

UPDATE: With the subsequent arrival of Anthony Arceneaux as receivers coach, Mike Cody returns to the offensive line.
