DAVIS, Calif. – Six-foot-10, 230-pound forward Hugh Hogland will join the UC Davis men's basketball program after signing a National Letter of Intent, as announced by head coach Jim Les on Wednesday.

Hogland will continue his college career as a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility remaining.

In addition to competing at Portland for two seasons, the Waimanalo, Hawai'i native spend the last two years training with, and representing Japan as a member of its National Team. He is one of 18 finalists competing for a spot on Japan's 2021 Olympic team.

"Hugh is a talented, hard working post player that has his best basketball in front of him," said Les. "He has size and a skill set that will flourish in our system. His personality and character are ideal compliments to the culture of our team."

In his two seasons at Portland, Hogland competed in 43 games, shot .528 from the floor, averaged four points and three rebounds per game.

Throughout Hogland's prep career at Iolani School (Honolulu) — known as one of the country's elite basketball programs — the Raiders advanced to the state championship game three straight years and won titles in 2014 and '16.

The three-time Hawai'i State All-Tournament selection ended his senior season averaging a double-double of 15.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game (in addition to 4.0 assists and 3.1 blocks/gm.), and capped an outstanding career with an honor roll that included Honolulu Star-Advertiser State Player of the Year, Gatorade Player of the Year and Division I State Tournament Most Outstanding Player awards.

Hogland also excelled in volleyball; he was a member of USA Volleyball Youth and Junior National Team programs before focusing his efforts solely on collegiate basketball.

The program's newest Aggie is the fourth member of his family to compete at an elite level: His grandfather, Doug, played in the National Football League for six seasons; his father, Matthew, played baseball at Southern Oregon; Cole, his younger brother, is a member of Hawai'i's men's volleyball team.
