IRVINE, Calif. — Ezra Manjon is the only freshman to earn Big West Player of the Week honors this season — he collected the first weekly award of his career from the conference on Jan. 20 — and when league officials announced on Monday that he was this week's selection, he became the first true freshman since 1974 to receive this accolade multiple times in a single season.

By averaging 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game, shooting .524 overall, hitting all 13 shots at the free throw line and posting a 9:2 assist-to-turnover ratio, Manjon led UC Davis to a pair of victories against UCSB and CSUN last week.

In Saturday's historic game — the Aggies scored a school-record 110 points — Manjon was directly responsible for 36 percent of the team's offense. In addition to scoring 16 points (he also led all players with a career-high seven rebounds), Manjon's teammates scored another 24 off his career-high eight assists. Against UC Santa Barbara, the Brentwood, Calif. native notched his fourth 20-point game of the season by finishing with that exact total on 7 of 10 shooting overall, and sank all five shots at the line.

Thanks to last week's results, UC Davis jumped up the league's standings from fifth to second place and swept the season series against CSUN (the No. 1 offense in the BWC at the time of each meeting).

Even though he is a true freshman, Manjon plays like seasoned veteran — a key reason why UC Davis won four of its last five played, and will enter Thursday's 7 p.m. league matchup at Cal Poly on a three-game win streak.
