DAVIS, Calif. – Luke Carrell, Bryan Green, Carson Seeman and Mark Wolbert are the newest members of UC Davis baseball after submitting a National Letter of Intent, as announced by head coach Matt Vaughn on Wednesday.

Each signee will graduate from his respective high school this spring and join the program as a true freshman.

"All of these young men are UC Davis-type kids: great students that excel in the classroom and on the field," said Vaughn. "We look forward to them joining the program."

Luke Carrell — LHP; Davis, Calif./Davis HS '21
Local Davis High School talent Luke Carrell will join his older brother, Zach, when he arrives to campus in the summer of 2021. This two-sport athlete — he is the Blue Devils' quarterback in the fall and becomes a left-handed pitcher in the spring — excels in the classroom and in competition, which is why UC Davis' coaching staff expects him to make an immediate impact.

"Luke will come in and help right away because he fills a need for left-handed pitching, and he flat-out competes.  Not being able to see much baseball over the last eight months, we were lucky to see Luke quite a bit before the shutdown since he is local," said Vaughn.

In 2019, his last full season of high school baseball since COVID forced a premature ending to the 2020 campaign after two games, Carrell started all nine games played, earned a team-high five of the Blue Devils' 18 victories and posted a 2.16 ERA in 45.1 innings pitched.

Delta League officials recognized Carrell's outstanding season by bestowing first team all-conference honors.

As the leader of DHS' football team, Carrell led the team to 16 victories throughout the last two seasons, which includes a 10-2 record, a Delta League championship and a victory in the opening round of the CIF playoffs last season.

By finishing with 1,692 passing yards and 21 touchdowns, he earned All-Delta League First Team, Team MVP and CBS Sacramento Athlete of the Month accolades.

When he signed with the Aggies, Carrell held a 4.0 GPA.

Bryan Green — LHP; Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS '21
Recruiting left-handed pitchers was a priority for UC Davis this offseason, which is why the coaching staff is thrilled to have Bryan Green join the program.

"He came into his own last summer and has worked hard to become stronger, and throw the ball harder. Talent-wise, he is explosive," Vaughn said.

In January of 2019, Green became an Eagle Scout from Troop 443, based in Spanish Springs, Nevada. This two-sport, football/baseball student-athlete is also a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.

Since his mom is a UC Davis alum, the Sparks, Nevada native and his family are familiar with the university's world-class academics, its rising program and the opportunity to compete in one of the nation's top baseball leagues.

Carson Seeman — IF/C; Auburn, Calif./Placer HS '21
For nearly three decades, some of the region's top baseball talents thrived under Placer High School head coach Dave Thompson's tutelage. As one of the most well-respected high school coaches in California, his assessment of Carson Seeman is why the Auburn, California native's work ethic and drive are a perfect fit for the Aggies.

"Carson is one of hardest workers I have ever coached in my program," he said.

Even though he was a middle infielder for Coach Thompson in recent seasons, due to the team's needs at those positions, Seeman can catch and will most likely play the corners at UC Davis. His versatility in Placer's lineup will make him a potential middle-of-the-order bat once he arrives to campus.

After posting a .484 batting average as a freshman, Seeman hit .333 as a sophomore and .444 during his junior season.

As is the case with his future UC Davis teammate, Mark Wolbert, Seeman also played for the Chico Aces. He spent the last four summers with the organization and led the team in hitting last season.

In addition to earning three letters as a member of the school's basketball team, Placer High's student body president and senior liaison to the school board currently holds a 4.05 GPA.

Mark Wolbert — OF/LHP; Petaluma, Calif./Petaluma HS '21
The Petaluma High School talent competed for stellar teams in recent years, which is how he caught the attention of UC Davis' coaching staff.

"He is a left-handed hitting outfielder who has also excelled on the mound as a left-handed pitcher. Mark is a great athlete who will help us right away," said Vaughn. "We have seen Mark quite a bit over the past two seasons competing for Petaluma High School and two very good summer programs."

In addition to competing for the Chico Aces, a program that will see numerous players commit to Division I teams during the 2020-21 signing period, he also played for the Petaluma Leghorns — an American Legion team that won the 2019 State Championship.

Wolbert was a starting outfielder for that title-winning squad.

In each of Wolbert's first two seasons, Petaluma HS won a Vine Valley Athletic League championship and competed in the North Coast Section playoffs.

Following a 2019 season that saw him hit .302, earn all-conference first team and Coaches Award honors, Wolbert recorded three hits, one home run and scored eight runs during an abridged 2020 season, due to COVID, that only included a few games.

"Mark has been well coached, is a versatile athlete, possesses a solid skill set, and has a high upside.  He is a baseball player," Vaughn added.

Mark will join his older brother Justin, who is currently a junior, when he arrives to campus next summer.
