Hebert highlights Aggies in dual at Arizona State

Junior co-captain breaks 9.9 barrier on floor for ninth time in her career

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Junior Kelley Hebert captured the individual floor exercise with a 9.900 then notched a runner-up 9.850 effort on balance beam, leading UC Davis in a dual matchup against host Arizona State at Desert Financial Arena Friday night. The Aggies, who scored a 187.225 overall total, move to 2-4 for the season. The host Gym Devils compiled a winning 195.250.

Hebert's score on floor exercise marks her highest since tying the school record of 9.950 in last year's March 15 home finale. It also marks the ninth time she has scored at least 9.9 in the event, including five straight scores in 2019. Finally, Hebert claims her second straight event title on floor for 2020, and the 13th win on that apparatus in her career.

UC Davis counted two falls toward a 46.275 on bars in the meet's opening rotation, then followed with a 47.550 on vault in the second. Junior Alyssa Ito led the bars squad with a 9.725, slightly ahead of Landess, who scored 9.675 in each of those first two events.

Junior Gabby Landess (9.800), sophomore Shannon Sklow (9.700) and freshmen Logan Clagg (9.625) and Petra Engstrom (9.625) joined Hebert in compiling a 48.650 on floor exercise heading into the final rotation. However, Hebert and Shanae Oishi (9.400) were the only Aggies not to suffer falls on beam, with that squad slipping to a 44.750 event total.

Friday's dual took place simultaneously with Arizona State's wrestling dual with Oregon State as part of the overall "Beauty & The Beast" promotion. The Aggies return home for a quad meet with Sacramento State, Alaska Anchorage and George Washington on Friday, January 24. Meet time is 7 p.m.
