LOS ANGELES – Adam Mickelson,
Max Arfsten and
Whalen Shinn were thwarted by Loyola Marymount in Sunday's non-conference game at Sullivan Field, as each nearly found the back of the net for the Aggies in the second of two straight road games against West Coast Conference opponents.
But it was an early LMU goal, scored in the eighth minute, that held as the game-winner for the Lions as they withstood a relentless UC Davis attack for the remaining 82 minutes of the match to collect a 1-0 win.
With this result, UC Davis will return home with a 3-2-1 overall record; LMU will end its weekend with a 4-1 mark.
Led by Mickelson's four, UC Davis out-shot the Lions, 13-11, and were clearly the more aggressive team throughout Sunday's match. The Aggies also earned three corners to the Lions' two, and created more dangerous scoring opportunities off those set plays compared to their opponent.
UC Davis' program-long eight match road trip will continue with two local contests next week, starting with Thursday's 7:30 p.m. matchup at Pacific. Next weekend's action will conclude on Saturday, Sept. 21, when UC Davis visits San José State, for another nighttime tilt, that starts at 7 p.m.
