Lucky 13 for the Aggies as they roll over Mustangs

Four players finish in double figures, Hall adds 10 rebounds

UC Davis held Cal Poly to 25 percent shooting en route to a blowout win on March 6, as the Aggies knocked off Cal Poly by the score of 87-54 for its 13th consecutive victory.

The overwhelming win moves UC Davis' overall record to 22-6, 14-1 in Big West play, as the Aggies' win streak is now the sixth-longest in school history. Cal Poly drops to 6-21, 3-13 in the conference, with the loss.

Hall helped lead UC Davis with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds, but the Aggies received huge contributions from senior biomedical engineering major Morgan Bertsch, who put up 19 points, as well as junior communication major Nina Bessolo and her 13 points and three steals. Junior Sophia Song added 12 points, while junior Katie Toole came off the bench to score 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting in 10 minutes. Cal Poly was paced by Dye Stahley, who had 14 points, to go with the 11 points from Alicia Roufosse.

UC Davis started strong from the jump, opening up a lead of 20-14 after the first quarter. The Aggies shot 42.9% from the field in the period, including 50.0% from three, where they made three shots. Offensively, Cal Poly shot only 35.3% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc, where they made one three.

After a first quarter that put them in control, UC Davis expanded their lead through quarter number two and headed into halftime leading 39-21. The Aggies lead at the break was partly due to the excellent effort of Bertsch, who had 15 points in the first half.

UC Davis then took that halftime lead and built on it, expanding the advantage to 60-34 heading into the fourth quarter. The Aggies bench gave them a huge spark in the period, accounting for 12 of their 21 points. With the basketball in their hands, Cal Poly shot 23.8% from the field and 16.7% from beyond the arc, where they made one three.

UC Davis finished strong in the fourth quarter, expanding their third-quarter lead and winning by the final of 87-54. The Aggies victory was fueled in part by the outstanding second-half play of junior nutrition science major Katie Toole, who put up 10 points to finish out the victory.

Over the span of the game, UC Davis shot 50.8% from the field, including 35.0% from three, and made seven shots from downtown. Cal Poly, on the other hand, finished 25.0% from the field and 18.2% from three, sinking four shots from deep. The Aggies received a significant contribution from their bench as well, as 38 of their 87 points came from non-starters. Cal Poly had control of the boards in the contest, outrebounding UC Davis 48-41 and controlling the offensive glass at a 21-8 clip. UC Davis was more careful taking care of the basketball than Cal Poly. The Aggies turned the ball over 7 times, while Cal Poly coughed it up on 13 occasions. UC Davis took advantage of the giveaways, racking up 17 points off those turnovers in the contest.
