IRVINE, Calif. — UC Davis women's tennis dropped its Big West Conference opener at UC Irvine by a 4-3 decision on Saturday.

The Anteaters won the doubles point with wins on courts one and three, but the dynamic duo of Nikita Pradeep and Shirley Hall pulled off a 7-5 victory to build momentum heading into singles play.

Pradeep and Hall were the only two Aggies to finish the day without a loss.

Hall took care of business in singles, dispatching UC Irvine freshman Alyssia Fossorier 6-2, 6-1 to be the first match off, evening the overall score at 1-1, before the Anteaters took the match on court four. 

Sara Tsukamoto dropped the first set at No. 2 before storming back for a 6-1, 6-1 second and third set, while Pradeep won her match 7-5, 6-3 to put UC Davis within one for the match win at 3-2.

However, UC Irvine was unfazed, and won the remaining two matches on the court to finish with a 4-3 victory.

Hall, Pradeep, and Tsukamoto have now each won three singles dual matches this season to lead the team, while Hall and Pradeep are 7-4 in doubles when including the fall season.

With the loss, UC Davis falls to 1-4, 0-1 BWC, this season, while UC Irvine moves to 8-3, 1-1 BWC. The Aggies will face Cal State Fullerton Sunday at 11 AM at the Titan Tennis Center.
