SEATTLE, Wash. — Freshman Andrei Volgin continues to shine in his debut fall season at UC Davis, partnering with junior Arjith Jayaraman to post a combined 3-0 record on day two of the Husky Invite at UW.
Starting the day with two doubles matches, Volgin/Jayaraman got back to the win column with two dominant wins, dropping just five total games. The duo notched the first win of the day over Eastern Washington's Wout Doumen and Jeremy Mueller, 8-3, before going on to defeat Pac-12 foes Thibault Cancel and Adam Torocsik from host Huskies, 8-2.
Ivan Thamma and Brett Brinkman put up a fight against UW's Jack Davis and Ewen Lumsden, but fell in a tiebreaker.
In singles play, it was the two freshmen to take the court, with Brinkman taking on Torocsik (UW), and Volgin facing Jack Pulliam (UW).
Volgin dropped the opening set 6-4, but rebounded to win his 13th match of the fall, 6-1, 6-4 in the second and third sets. Brinkman also went three, but fell in a third set tiebreaker, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(4).
The Aggies will conclude the Husky Invite with one round of doubles matches against UW teams, and Brinkman and Volgin in action for afternoon singles matches against Portland State.
