Game Notes: UC Davis  |  Loyola Chicago

DAVIS, Calif. – For Joe Mooney, UC Davis' 2019-20 season opener is more than just a basketball game since this matchup will provide the fifth-year guard with an opportunity to compete in front of friends and family members from his hometown.

Mooney grew up in Wauconda, Illinois, an hour's drive from where the Aggies' inaugural game of the season will tip-off.

"Since our first game is in Chicago, this gives me an opportunity to go home. This game has been on my mind more often than most non-conference games," said Mooney.

"I'm excited to play in front of my family and friends. This is where I grew up; the people from Illinois, Chicago, and Notre Dame College Prep helped shape me into the player I am today. I am thankful, excited, and grateful to the coaches for scheduling this game."

In addition to Mooney's supporters, the Cal Aggie Alumni Association's Chicago Network is organizing an event for local, and Midwest alums to gather and cheer on the Aggies.

Tuesday's game is also a homecoming for head coach Jim Les, who grew up in Niles, Illinois, less than 10 miles away from Loyola Chicago's campus. After attending Notre Dame College Prep (located in Niles), Coach Les attended Cleveland State for one season before returning to his home state and completing his college career at Bradley.

Tuesday's matchup is the second all-time between these teams, and the first since the 2013-14 season when the Aggies defeated the Ramblers, 64-61, in overtime at the Portland State Tournament.
